“Boys Don’t Cry - Shirt” (2009)

So this is the second Cure shirt I made with the famous Robert Smith silhouette of the “Boys Don’t Cry” single cover (released in 1986).

Boys Don't Cry cover design

The design was done with a stencil and white-silver textile paint on a black t-shirt.

Like my other Cure shirt this is also about 3 years old, but unlike the other one I wear it very often at home. But it still looks really good despite all the washing.

“Let’s Go To Bed - Shirt” (2009)

Since I became a crazy Cure addict I always wanted to have some great Cure merch like shirts etc, but where I live I couldn’t find anything and so I decided to make my own unique Cure shirts.

This is the first one I did back in 2009.
My inspiration was a shirt made by another fan with the cover of “Let’s Go To Bed” that I saw on the official Cure forum. I really loved it and I wanted such a shirt too and so I decided to make one on my own.

The cover design of the “Let’s Go To Bed” vinyl (released in 1982) was really perfect for it cause it looks expressive and also very good in only black and white.

I also loved the way Robert looks on the cover art … even with only his eyes visible you can still recognize him.

The shirt is now about 3 years old but it still looks good … ok, I only wear it at special occasions like Cure parties and fan meet-ups.

“Disintegration” (2009)

This is my interpretation of the Cure song “Disintegration” from the album “Disintegration” from 1989.

It is an oil painting on canvas.

“The Same Deep Water As You” (2009)

Another artwork that I made for the “One Endless Dream” Cure Tribute book in 2009/10.

It’s an illustration for the Cure song “The Same Deep Water As You” from the album “Disintegration” from 1989.

It’s mostly a Scherenschnitt (papercutting) and in the background I added stripes of blue and white transparent paper. The ‘frame’ was done on the computer.

Btw if you don’t know the song but want to listen yourself to my inspiration, you can find the album version here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V35cxutR7gc&feature=related and a wonderful live version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcionF7w5-w . Enjoy!

And here are the lyrics to this beautiful song:

“Kiss me goodbye
Pushing out before I sleep
Can’t you see I try
Swimming the same deep water as you is hard
“The shallow drowned lose less than we”
You breathe
The strangest twist upon your lips
“And we shall be together … “

“Kiss me goodbye
Bow your head and join with me”
And face pushed deep
Reflections meet
The strangest twist upon your lips
And disappear
The ripples clear
And laughing
Break against your feet
And laughing
Break the mirror sweet
“So we shall be together … “

“Kiss me goodbye”
Pushing out before I sleep
It’s lower now and slower now
The strangest twist upon your lips
But I don’t see
And I don’t feel
But tightly hold up silently
My hands before my fading eyes
And in my eyes
Your smile
The very last thing before I go …

I will kiss you I will kiss you
I will kiss you forever on nights like this
I will kiss you I will kiss you
And we shall be together …”

“Sinking” (2009)

This is another artwork that I made for the “One Endless Dream” Cure Tribute book in 2009/10.

It is a pencil drawing and illustration made for the Cure song “Sinking” from the album “The Head On The Door” from 1985.

I also added some of the lyrics from this song to my drawing, it’s my favourite part:

“The secrets I hide
Twist me inside
They make me weaker”

“Forever” (2009)

This is an artwork that I made for the “One Endless Dream” Cure Tribute book in 2009/10.

It’s one of my first watercolour paintings and an illustration for the Cure song “Forever” (aka “All Mine”/”All I Have To Do Is Kill Her”).

For everyone that is not familiar with The Cure
(I don’t know how that is possible, but well …):
This song can’t be found on any Cure album cause it was never recorded in a studio and is only played live (since 1980).
The special thing is that it is always improvised when played live so that every live version is unique, musically but also the lyrics are always different.

For my artwork I wrote by hand the lyrics to 3 different versions of this song in different colours and fonts on my watercolour painting:
The river has the lyrics of “All I have to do is kill her” from 1982 Paris, the land has some of the lyrics of “All Mine” from 1982 London and the sky has the lyrics of “Forever” from 1992 Lievin.

“30th Anniversary of The Cure” tribute page (2009)

This is the first Cure inspired artwork I ever made, an oil painting done for the 30th Anniversary of The Cure in 2009 and included in the fan tribute book “Other Voices - A Cure Fan Tribute”.

Btw this work was inspired by “Chalk Cliffs on Rügen” by Caspar David Friedrich in 1818.
